What are the richest sources of fructose?
Food most abundant with fructose includes fruits, honey and vegetables. Figs, apples and pears are some of the fruits which have the highest concentration of fructose, more so than some fruits such as peaches and apricots.
As far as vegetables are concerned, the highest amount of fructose can be found in onions and sweet corn. In fact, industrial fructose is most commonly produced from sweet corn.
Is fructose healthy or not?
It’s hard to give a precise and simple answer to this question. Generally speaking, all types of sugar lead to excessive weight gain, fructose included. However, sugars are one of the main sources of energy for the human body, so they cannot be disregarded. Instead, you should keep tabs on what types of sugar are you consuming what amounts and in which periods of the day.
Ingesting sugar is not recommended late in the evening as it can cause indigestion, bloating and building of fatty deposits.
Keep in mind that naturally occurring fructose in fruits is much healthier than fructose you ingest through eating processed food.
So, if you want to make a healthier choice, opt to have your daily dose of fructose during the day and through eating fruit instead of eating chocolate and other sweets, which have other harmful ingredients anyway.
